Thomas Twitmyer
Thomas Twitmyer — Artist Statement & Bio

Thomas Twitmyer creates vibrant, layered digital compositions that fuse photography, painting, and abstract design into richly textured visual landscapes. Drawing from familiar mountain and outdoor imagery—ski slopes, barns, streetscapes, and expansive skies—he transforms recognizable scenes into expressive contemporary works where realism and abstraction exist in productive tension. Bold color, geometric structure, and layered visual elements animate the surface, while fractured compositions and shifting spatial relationships create a sense of instability beneath the beauty. The result is work that is both visually immersive and psychologically charged, inviting viewers into landscapes that feel at once familiar, energetic, and subtly unsettled.

The Steamboat and Aspen series highlight alpine landscapes, local architecture, and iconic landmarks, rendered with saturated colors and layered textures that convey depth, movement, and atmosphere. Twitmyer’s abstract works push these environments further into experimental territory: shapes, lines, and color fields interact in complex, multidimensional ways, creating compositions that oscillate between recognizable forms and pure visual expression. Across his collection, Twitmyer’s art emphasizes the interplay of color, texture, and structure, inviting viewers to explore both the familiar and the abstract simultaneously.

A trained geologist and lifelong observer of the natural world, Twitmyer brings a deep understanding of form, texture, and spatial relationships to every piece. His work fuses painting, drawing, photography, and digitally derived 3D imagery, producing compositions that are conceptually resonant and visually compelling.

Twitmyer’ s pieces have been exhibited in solo and group shows, including the Schoonover Gallery of Fine Arts in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and are held in private collections. Limited edition prints range from $1,000 to $4,000, reflecting the careful craftsmanship and conceptual depth of each work.
